David Handlin's (draft) list of the 100 best American novels. I appreciate that he is not biased towards the past 50 years. I love the excess of Melville and Hemingway and Faulkner. Here are my Top Twelve, extracted from his Top 100 -- not necessarily the best, but the best place to start.
